Graphic design relies on a catch. Reward the viewer with a moment where they “get” the design if they put some thought into it.
This branding was for Summitview’s short Christmas sermon series. The series came after a sermon series about two kings in the Bible, one of which was better than the other, although both made mistakes. I chose to focus on the idea that Jesus’ birth was the coming of the true king, over even the best of imperfect kings.
The two inverted crowns reflect the two fallen kings and the larger crown represents the advent of Jesus as king. The gold and purple create a complementary color scheme. The type was set in a decorative font for the holidays, which some people have said at times looks like a king you would see on a playing card in profile.
The branding was adapted to an invite card, a poster, a devotional booklet, multimedia presentations, and several web images.
